1. When should I consider using gravity water purifier?

These water filters are suitable for corporation or municipality supplied water. They don’t have any harmful metals like arsenic or lead. They are mostly recommended for water with TDS levels below 300ppm. If you water source is same, then you can choose them. They don’t consume electricity for operation so they are perfect to use in areas with frequent power cuts. They don’t need continuous water supply so they are suitable for areas where running water is not possible.

2. Is it ok to use gravity water purifier in villages?

Yes, you can but it majorly depends on the water supply. If it is river water or ground water, then they have calcium or other substance in it which is hard to filter for gravity water filters. Check the TDS levels beforehand. If the TDS levels are below 300ppm, then you can choose gravity water filters.

3. Can I use the filter lifelong gravity based water purifier lifelong for purifying water?

No, we don’t recommend to use the filter lifelong as it comes with certain limit. The lifetime of filter ranges from 1500 to 4000 liters on average. So, you have to purchase a new filter once in 2 or 3 years based on your usage.

4. We are three bachelors sharing a flat. Which gravity water filter is suitable for us?

Based on the consumption of usage, you can purchase a gravity water filter with 10 to 15 liters of water holding capacity.

5. What are the best brands for gravity based water purifier?

Top brands that provide gravity water purifier are Kent, HUL, Pureit, Eureka Forbes, Tata Swatch and Aquaguard. All these brands provide efficient and high quality products.

6. What is the best way to clean gravity based water purifier?

To clean the water purifier thoroughly, you have to first disassemble their parts. After that, take liquid soap for cleaning and running water for washing off. You have to follow this procedure at least twice a month. Re-assemble the parts the again. Once the cleaning is completed, discard the first batch of water to remove any impurities left over in it.

7. What is Ultra-Filtration?

UF is a filtration membrane process which uses hydrostatic pressure for forcing the water through semipermeable membrane. It removes all the colloidal particles like 0.01 to 1.0 microns from water and largest dissolved contaminants.

8. Gravity based water purifier Vs RO water purifier – which one should I choose?

Gravity water purifiers use sedimentary filters or UF filtration for removing particles. Some of them also have activated carbon purifiers which remove impurities. They don’t require any electricity or continuous water supply for working. However, they cannot remove total dissolved salts and chemicals present in water. When it comes to gravity water purifiers, they have multiple purification layers and RO (reverse osmosis) filter. They are capable of removing all kinds of impurities including total dissolved salts and chemicals like arsenic. However, the water wastage is high in RO systems as it produces 1 liters of water and discards 3 liters of water on an average. To conclude, if the water supply to your area is from a municipal corporation or don’t have continuous running water, then gravity filters are the right choice. If you don’t know the water source, or if it is ground water or river water, then choose RO water purifier.

Gravity water purifier is an affordable and efficient solution for clean drinking water. However, if your home’s water supply is not provided by municipal corporation, then we recommend to choose RO water purifier.

These water purifiers use UF (ultra-filtration) technology to remove impurities (sand, dirt, dust and chlorine) and microorganisms like cysts and bacteria. They come in several sizes, require less maintenance, cost effective and work without any electricity.

To choose the best gravity water purifier, we recommend to consider couple of factors…

Water Tank Capacity

It usually depends on number of family members. For couples or bachelors, 10-liter water capacity is enough. For medium families, we recommend to go for 15 liters’ capacity. And for large capacity, 20 to 25 liters’ capacity is suffice.

Purification Rate

It varies from one purifier model to another, usually ranging from 5 liters per hour to 120 liters per hour. Typically, a person drinks 2.7 liters per day or 3.7 liters if you include beverages and cooking. Based on this calculate the peak household water usage and choose according to it.

Filter Life Capacity

Filters have to be replaced after processing certain amount of water. So, you have to check the filter life capacity thoroughly and calculate how often you have to replace the filter. Decide if the replacement frequency is ok for you or not. On an average, filter life is around 1500 to 4000 liters of water.

Material

Most popular materials of gravity filters are stainless steel and plastic. Stainless steel is most preferred as it is more durable and safer. However, it is expensive. Plastic material is more affordable but less durable.
